Groundwater Model – Lake Victoria Consent Reporting

Management of Lake Victoria is crucial to regulating flow on the Murray and Darling Rivers, by providing artificial storage when water is available. However, long-term artificial storage in Lake Victoria has the potential to cause local water logging and land salinisation. Ecoseal developed coupled flow and transport models to assess lake/aquifer interaction and to assess the long-term impact of lake operations on groundwater salinity. Scenarios were undertaken to model the effect of below average rainfall resulting in low or empty conditions in Lake Victoria and high rainfall and its impact on salinity transport to the lake.
